Made fundamental contributions to algebra and geometry in these subjects: Kahler manifolds, invariant theory, discrete reflection groups, geometry of Lobaschevsky spaces, homogenous spaces, introduction of the notion of complexity of reductive group actions, discovery of Vinberg groups, and the foundations to the theory of discrete groups generated by reflections. Recipient of the Humboldt Research Award (1997).
