Etel Solingen
Etel Solingen is Distinguished Professor and Tierney Chair in Global Peace and Conflict at the University of California, Irvine. Her research focuses on the reciprocal influence between the global economy and international security, nuclear proliferation, global supply chains, comparative regional orders, transnational diffusion, economic statecraft, globalization and its discontents, and science and technology policy.
She was President of the International Studies Association, UCI Chancellor’s Professor, and recipient of the National Academy of Sciences' William and Katherine Estes Award. She has also received the American Political Science Association’s Woodrow Wilson Foundation Best Book Award; the American Academy in Berlin's Richard Holbrooke Prize; the London School of Economics' Susan Strange Professorship; ISA’s Distinguished Scholar award in International Security; ISA’s Jervis and Schroeder Award Best Book award; the MacArthur Foundation’s Research and Writing Award on Peace and International Cooperation; the Social Science Research Council-MacArthur Foundation’s Fellowship on Peace and Security; the Japan Foundation Abe Fellowship, and the APSA and UC Irvine’s Senate mentoring awards, among others.
Solingen’s books include Nuclear Logics: Contrasting Paths in East Asia and the Middle East, Regional Orders at Century's Dawn; Industrial Policy, Technology, and International Bargaining, Geopolitics, Supply Chains and International Relations of East Asia; Sanctions, Statecraft, and Nuclear Proliferation; Comparative Regionalism, and Scientists and the State.
Her articles have appeared in the APSR, International Organization, International Security, International Studies Quarterly, Comparative Politics, Global Value Chain Development Report 2021, the Journal of Peace Research, the Journal of Theoretical Politics, Global Governance, International Studies Review, and the Journal of Democracy, among others.
She is Chief Editor of the Cambridge University Press Elements Series on Globalization and Supply Chains and has served in the editorial boards of the APSR, International Organization, International Security, International Studies Quarterly, and International Interactions, among others.
