Demange is an economic theorist who has made contributions to the understanding of two-sided matching, group and coalition formation, financial contagion, and the spread of rumors and information. Her early work concerned the structure of stable two-sided matchings in a variety of settings, and incentives in matching settings. She subsequently provided models and analyses of how groups and coalitions form. She has also studied how network structure matters in the dissemination of information, the relative strength of people in hierarchical structures, and the potential for financial contagions.
