Gary A. Glatzmaier

Professor Emeritus, Earth and Planetary Sciences, University of California Santa Cruz.  Writes computer programs to simulate thermal convection and magnetic field generation (i.e., dynamos) in the interiors of planets and stars to predict and explain the structures of their internal fluid flows and magnetic fields. Produced the first three-dimensional self-consistent simulation of the Earth's magnetic field with dipole reversals and a super-rotating solid inner core.  Member of the National Academy of Sciences.  Author of "Introduction to Modeling Convection in Planets and Stars", Princeton University Press, 2014.  http://es.ucsc.edu/~glatz
