                    Contributions encompass both fundamental studies of virus/host interactions and applied work on the development of vaccines. Discovered key role of NF-kB in controlling HIV replication and characterized aspects of NF-kB control. Directs NIH vaccine laboratory, with focus on HIV and other viral pathogens. Discovered protective immunity against Ebola virus and developed accelerated, single injection vaccine that provides model for containing Ebola, SARS, and other infectious disease outbreaks. Received American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology-Amgen Scientific Achievement Award (1996). Associate Editor of Journal of Virology.
