George J. Sánchez is Professor of American Studies & Ethnicity and History at the University of Southern California. He is the author of Boyle Heights: How a Los Angeles Neighborhood Became the Future of American Democracy (2021) and Becoming Mexican American: Ethnicity, Culture and Identity in Chicano Los Angeles, 1900–1945 (1993) and editor of Los Angeles and the Future of Urban Cultures (with Raúl Homero Villa, 2005) and Civic Engagement in the Wake of Katrina (with Amy Koritz, 2009).
