Professor of Biochemistry. Pioneered new transient kinetic techniques and caged neurotransmitters for use with membrane-bound proteins, resulting in new mechanisms describing the malfunction, and its alleviation, of two different neurotransmitter receptors. Established novel approaches for answering important questions concerning membrane-bound proteins. Developed carbodiimide method for peptide synthesis as a postdoctoral Fellow in Professor John Sheehan's laboratory at MIT. As a graduate student in Professor C.H. Li's laboratory at UC Berkeley, discovered that adrenocorticotropic horomone activity is associated with a peptide.
