Drew University, Madison, New Jersey ~Distinguished Poet-in-Residence, M.F.A. Program in Poetry, Caspersen School of Graduate Studies. Work became widely recognized after the publication of Lucky Life (1977) and after his essays on writing poetry appeared in American Poetry Review. Author of fifteen books of poetry, including Save the Last Dance (2008); Everything is Burning (2005); and This Time: New and Selected Poems, which won the 1998 National Book Award. Named Poet Laureate of New Jersey (2000-2002), and received the Wallace Stevens Award from the Academy of American Poets (2005). Since 2006, has served as Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets. Taught at Temple University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and the Iowa Writers' Workshop. Former faculty member and cofounder of New England College's Master's of Fine Arts Program in Poetry. Recent publications include memoir, Stealing History (2012), and book of poems, In Beauty Bright (2012). ~~
