Haifa Jamal Al-Lail is the President of Effat University, a leading private university for women in Saudi Arabia. Founded in 1999, Effat is the first university to offer engineering programs for women in Saudi Arabia. Before joining Effat University, Al-Lail served as the first dean of the Girls' Campus in King Abdulaziz University. A well-known advocate of youth engagement, Al-Lail was a winner of the 1000 Women for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005 and has won many other awards in Saudi Arabia and the Arab world, including the Distinguished Arabian Woman Award in 2005. A native of Saudi Arabia, she received her Ph.D. in Public Policy from the University of Southern California.
