Townsend Martin '17 Professor of Art and Archaeology, Princeton University. Co-founder of ZONE Magazine and Books; Co-editor of OCTOBER Magazine and Books. With a theoretical approach that combines diverse methodologies, he is at the forefront of art history. First two books--the anthology The Anti-Aesthetic: Essays on Postmodern Culture (1983) and Recodings (1985)--established reputation as a critic of contemporary art and culture. Subsequent works examine Surrealism vis-a-vis psychoanalysis, genealogies of art since 1960, Pop art, and the art-architecture rapport. Frequent contributor to Artforum and The London Review of Books.
