Hans Daalder

Research has focused on comparative politics, Dutch politics, political development, Marxism and nationality, problems of university governance. He edited a major collection of intellectual autobiographies of leading international scholars in the field of comparative European politics, which was published in 1997. Since he retired in 1993 he worked in collaboration with Jelle Gaemers on a very extensive biography of Willem Drees (1886-1988), socialist cabinet minister and prime minister in the Netherlands in postwar years 1945-58 which was to grow into five volumes published between 2003 and 2014.
