Research has centered on different fields. He has written on the previously unrecognized importance of brickstamps for the dating of Roman architecture. Greek historiography. The history of Medieval Latin literature. The unique significance of the Abbey of Monte Cassino. At present he is engaged in a book edition of an article on The Author of the Graphia Aureae Urbis Romae (1984). He proved that the treatise, previously regarded ananymous and attributed to the eleventh or tenth century is a work of Peter the Deacon of Monte Cassino, written about the middle of the twelfth century. Other projects are planned.
