John C. Coleman Professor of English, University of Virginia. Influential scholar of Victorian poetry and its cultural significance. Has been a Danforth Fellow, a Whiting Fellow, American Council of Learned Societies Fellow, a Fellow of the National Humanities Center, and a Fulbright Distinguished Professor. Recipient, North American Victorian Studies Association's Donald J. Gray prize for the year's best essay in Victorian Studies. Epic: Britain's Heroic Muse 1790-1910 (2008) has been widely praised. Associate editor, New Literary History and Victorian series editor for University of Virginia Press. Fellow, Teaching and Technology Initiative. Has held several administrative offices, both university-wide and departmental. Has held visiting faculty appointments at New York University (London), Williams College, and Leeds University, Durham University, and Queen Mary University (United Kingdom).  Current project: a book on modern charm tentatively entitled After Magic.
