His main interests lie in philosophical interpretation of science, language, symbolism and education. His books on analytical philosophy of science treat of explanation, meaning, confirmation and objectivity. Books in philosophy of language and symbolism offer analyses of vagueness, ambiguity, metaphor, ritual, play and worldmaking. A work of pragmatism provides a critical yet sympathetic account of Peirce, James, Mead and Dewey. Several books on philosophy of education employ analytical methods applied to teaching, potential and a variety of topics bearing on curriculum and schooling.
