Research has produced fundamental understanding and widely used models of spectral line shapes in crystals and amorphous solids, of single molecule spectroscopy in solids, of line shapes and dynamics of chromophores in liquids (especially water), and of vibrational and electronic relaxation in liquids, solids, and supercritical fluids.
