James Stimson, Raymond Dawson Distinguished Bicentennial Professor of Political Science, earned his B.A. from the University of Minnesota in 1966 and his Ph.D. from UNC in 1970. He returned to Chapel Hill in 1997 after appointments to the political science faculties of SUNY at Buffalo, Florida State, and the Universities of Houston, Iowa, and Minnesota. He has won the Eulau and Kammerer Awards of the American Political Science Association, the Chastain Award of the Southern Political Science Association, the Pi Sigma Alpha Award of the Midwest Political Science Association, and the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching from the State University of New York system.
