Through close relations with faculty, staff and students has enhanced the undergraduate programs and developed strong partnerships with the community, government, and industry. As a faculty member, research focused on nondestructive optical and microwave methods for sensing changes in materials properties and structures leading to 115 publications. Previously served as professor and departmental chair at Johns Hopkins University, then dean of engineering, provost, and interim president at Case Western Reserve University.
