A veteran academic administrator and noted historian, President James Wright joined the Dartmouth faculty in 1969. He served as the 16th president of Dartmouth College from 1998 to 2009. Since then he has returned to his work as a historian and scholar.  Wright is a specialist in American history. He is the author or editor of six books and is completing a book on the Vietnam War. A former Marine himself, Wright has been active supporting veterans' programs.  He has been a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellow and a Charles Warren Fellow at Harvard University.
