Joan Shea
Joan-Emma Shea is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at University of California, Santa Barbara, where she also serves as Associate Dean and Faculty Equity Advisor. The focus of her research group is using molecular dynamics simulations and advanced data analysis techniques to probe protein chemistry and structure. She uses tools of physical chemistry and computational physics to investigate biological problems, including chaperone-mediated protein folding and the role of protein aggregation in amyloid disease.
She is a Fellow of both the American Physical Society and the American Chemical Society, and the Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Physical Chemistry. She holds a Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
