Leading scholar in security studies and international political economy. Her interests include international relations, international political economy, and the relationship between democracies and international disputes. She is the author of Closing the Gold Window: Domestic Politics and the End of Bretton Woods (1983); Allies, Adversaries, and International Trade (1995); Ballots and Bullets: The Elusive Democratic Peace (1999); and author of articles on political economy, trade and monetary policy, and democracy and disputes. She is a member of the editorial boards of World Politics, International Organization and is a trustee of Tufts University.
