John Geweke
John Geweke has shared his economic and econometrics expertise as a faculty member, a department chair, a private sector economist, and author. He is currently a faculty affiliate with the University of Washington Department of Economics and a senior principal economist with Amazon. Geweke is distinguished for his contributions to econometric theory in time series analysis and Bayesian modelling, and for applications in the fields of macroeconomics, finance, and microeconomics. His work has especially illuminated how statistical models, even incomplete ones, can be used to forecast and evaluate economic policies.
He authored foundational books in his field, including Contemporary Bayesian Econometrics and Statistics (2005) and Complete and Incomplete Econometric Models (2010).
For decades, Geweke has also been a consultant applying his expertise in economics and statistics to support decision-making in the private and public sectors.
His previous faculty positions include Distinguished Research Professor at the University of Technology Sydney; the Harlan McGregor Chair in Economic Theory and Professor of Economics and Statistics at the University of Iowa; the William R. Kenan Professor of Economics and Professor of Statistics and Decision Sciences at Duke University; as well as faculty and research responsibilities at the University of Minnesota and the University of Wisconsin.
He completed his Ph.D. in economics at the University of Minnesota in 1975.
