John Haffenden

He is the author of award-winning biographies and editions of John Berryman and William Empson, and of critical studies of W. H. Auden and other authors. In his editions of the poems and letters of Empson, and of the plays and letters of T. S. Eliot, he has raised the standard of editing and annotating modern literary texts to its highest level. He is the Principal Investigator of the T. S. Eliot Editorial Project one of the major editorial undertakings of our time, with critical editions of all of Eliot's poems, plays, prose, and letters now appearing annually after years of restricted access. He is himself general editor of both The Letters of T. S. Eliot and of The Complete Plays, forthcoming next year.
