Ohio Eminent Scholar in Materials Research, Professor of Physics. Research in many-body theory, electronic structure of solids and quantum liquids. Contributed to the understanding of strong coupling superconductors, dilute magnetic alloys (Kondo effect), valence fluctuations, transport, optical properties of solids, quasi one-dimensional metals, surface scattering, growth dynamics of defects and phase transition. Elected Chair of the American Physical Society's Division of Condensed Matter Physics.
