He has written extensively on early modern philosophy, philosophy of mind and language, metaphysics, and ethics. His approach to early modern philosophy studies -- treating them as philosophy with a special technique rather than as history with a special subject-matter -- has attracted much attention, not all of it favorable. Since about 2003 he has given up trying to contribute to philosophy, and turned his attention and activities to producing versions of early modern classics that can, without being intellectually simplified,  be read by today's students. They can be found on www.earlymoderntexts.com.
