Jonathan Jay Cole
Senior Scientist, emeritus and former G. Evelyn Hutchinson Chair in Ecology. Research contributes to understanding connections of freshwater ecosystems to climate warming. Works on interface between microbiology and biogeochemistry in aquatic ecosystems. Studies biotic and abiotic regulation of microbial metabolism, energy flow, and carbon cycles in lakes, rivers, and marine systems. Focuses on the fates of terrestrial C in aquatic systems and role that inland waters have on the global carbon balance. President of American Society of Limnology and Oceanography (2004-2006). Recipient of the ECI Prize (2003) from the International Ecology Institute.
