Joseph C. Wu

Joseph C. Wu, M.D., Ph.D. is Director of Stanford Cardiovascular Institute and Simon H. Stertzer, M.D., Professor of Medicine and Radiology at Stanford University. He is currently president of the Association of University Cardiologists (2026-2027) and previously served as President of the American Heart Association (2023-2024). Wu is also an elected member or fellow of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, Association of University Cardiologists, American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, American Association of Physicians, Academia Sinica, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Asian American Academy of Science and Engineering, American Academy of Arts & Sciences, National Academy of Inventors, and National Academy of Medicine.

Wu’s research integrates genomics, stem cells/organoids, AI, and drug discovery.

Wu has received several prestigious awards, including the NIH Director’s New Innovator Award, NIH Roadmap Transformative Award, Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) given out by President Obama at the White House, American Heart Association (AHA) Distinguished Scientist Award, AHA Merit Award, and Burroughs Wellcome Foundation Innovation in Regulatory Science Award. He is also the recipient of Louis and Artur Lucian Award for Research in Circulatory Diseases, the Schottenstein Prize in Cardiovascular Sciences, and the ASCI Stanley J. Korsmeyer Award. He currently sits on the Boards of the Keystone Symposia, AHA, and Greenstone Biosciences, a startup that he co-founded which focuses on NAMs for drug discovery.
