Karen Strier's research focuses on understanding the behavioral ecology of primates from a comparative perspective and contributing to conservation efforts on their behalf. She is engaged in ongoing multi-decade field studies of the behavior of the northern muriqui monkeys in Brazil, which combines field observation with physiology to yield insights into the influence of ecology and demography on the evolution of variation. Her current research priorities focus on long-term field study to evaluate how stochastic demographic fluctuations and individual life histories affect population viability and behavioral flexibility.
