She coauthored two classic textbooks: Abnormal Psychology (1980) and Manic Depressive Illness (2007). Her autobiographical memoir An Unquiet Mind (1995) was translated into 25 languages, and her exploration of the psychological and societal contexts of suicide Night Falls Fast: Understanding Suicide (1999) was translated into 15 languages.
