                    Studied at the Art Students League of New York (1952-55) and at the Skowhegan School (1954). After a year spent in Rome on a Fulbright Fellowship (1956-57), she returned to New York City where she had her first solo exhibition in 1959. In the early 1970's she joined the faculty of Brooklyn College, City University of New York, and taught there until her retirement in 1991. Had her first museum exhibition in 1968, at the Museum Boymans-van Beuningen in Rotterdam. In 2003-2004 a major retrospective of her work was presented at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
