Current research focuses on (1) the economic impacts of a shift from a natural resource-based economy to a knowledge-based economy, and (2) the reasons for a widening dispersion in American earnings. The two are interrelated but not identical. Globalization is one of the impacts flowing from the shift to a knowledge-based economy and it in turn through what is known as factor price equalization is one of the factors producing a widening distribution of earnings. A technology intensive skill shift also flows from the first and impacts the second. Increased immigration falls into the same category.
