Pioneering researcher in the new field of chemical glycobiology. Invented new chemical approaches for the detection and study of carbohydrates, including biomarkers associated with cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Discovered novel, unexpected roles for carbohydrates in the regulation of gene expression, neuronal regeneration after injury, long-term memory, and cancer metabolism. With its focus on molecules and mechanisms underlying human disease, her work has the potential to contribute to new therapeutic strategies to combat disease.
