Research was largely been in the field of fluid mechanics, especially hydrodynamic stability, geophysical fluid dynamics and some aspects of turbulence; His later work continued this, primarily in rotating flow, stability theory, and water waves. Other aspects of applied mathematics also received some attention, especially reaction diffusion equations and models of semicrystalline polymers.
