Professor Lutz Niethammer is the Professor Emeritus of Modern and Contemporary History at Friedrich-Schiller Universitat Jena. He is the founding president of the Cultural Studies Institute in Essen and also an advisor to the German Chancellor on reparations for forced labor under the Nazi regime. Additionally, Niethammer is a member of the Kuratorium for the Buchenwald Memorial and has published on oral history methods, post-history theory, the industrial life in the German Democratic Republic, concentration camps, national memory, and the concept of identity.
