Professor of Physics. Developed new techniques to study the universe through the cosmic background radiation (CMB). Formulated experiments that measured the first peak in the CMB angular power spectrum, providing a determination of the total matter density in our universe. Founding member of NASA's Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe Project. Founding director of the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT) project.
