Best-known work focuses on CEO behavior and pay, and how it relates to oversight by outside bodies and market institutions. In addition to work in finance-related areas, contributed to measuring the extent of racial discrimination in the labor market using new methodology and has studied the implications of labor market regulations on labor market outcomes. Recipient of the 2004 Elaine Bennett Research Prize, awarded by the American Economic Association to recognize and honor outstanding research in any field of economics by a woman at the beginning of her career.
