Distinguished Professor of Human Genetics; Eccles Institute of Human Genetics; Investigator, Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Research on the molecular genetic analysis of mammalian development, with emphasis on neurogenesis, organogenesis, patterning of the vertebral column, and limb development. Contributes to the modeling of human diseases in the mouse, from cancer to neuropsychiatric disorders. Recipient of the 2002-2003 Wolf Prize in Medicine and the 2007 Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology for fundamental contributions to gene targeting.
