Maury Tigner, the Hans A. Bethe Professor Emeritus in the Department of Physics at Cornell University, and Former Director of the Lab of Nuclear Studies, was also the Director of the Lab of Elementary Particle Physics (LEPP) at Cornell. He was a pioneer in the application of superconductivity to high energy accelerators and for leading the design team for the Superconducting Super Collider.

He received his B.S.,1958, from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his Ph.D, 1962, from Cornell, where he moved from Research Associate to Senior Research Associate, to Professor before retiring. He held visiting appointments at: Institute of High Energy Physics, Beijing; Chinese Academy of Sciences; DESY, Germany.
