Professor Michael E. Taylor is the William R. Kenan Professor of Mathematics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has contributed fundamental and enduring contributions to the theory of partial differential equations, especially with his work on diffraction of waves, convergence properties of eigenfunction expansions and low regularity in nonlinear problems. Professor Taylor has written a comprehensive treatment of the subject accessible to a wide mathematical audience. He is the recipient of the Lester Randolph Ford Award and is a member of the American Mathematical Society and Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. Some of his publications include, "Pseudodifferential Operators," and 3 volumes of "Partial Differential Equations."
