Michelle R. Arkin

Michelle Arkin is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Vice Dean of Research Technology and Entrepreneurship at the University of California, San Francisco School of Pharmacy. Also at UCSF, Arkin is also the Executive Director of the Small Molecule Discovery Center, which is a collaborative research and core lab that includes a high-throughput screening facility and medicinal chemistry.

Her lab develops innovative approaches to screen for chemical tools and drug leads, using biophysical approaches like fragment-based drug discovery and biological approaches including high-content imaging with primary cells and organisms. The goal of Arkin's lab is to demonstrate ‘druggability’ of new target classes and to use compounds to discover new targets for drug discovery. Areas of interest include protein-protein interactions, dynamic and intrinsically disordered proteins, and orphan and neglected diseases.

She received an A.B. in Chemistry from Bryn Mawr College and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the California Institute of Technology.
