American businessman and trustee. Joined Abbott, a pharmaceutical and medical products company, in 1984, was named chief executive officer in 1998 and became chairman of the board in 1999. Fortune Magazine named Abbott the most admired company in its industry in 2010, and for the past three years Mr. White has been named by Barron's as one of the world's best CEO's, and twice as the only representative of the healthcare industry. Under his leadership, Abbott's profits have doubled. The company now employs approximately 90,000 people and markets its products to more than 130 countries. Currently he serves as a director of Caterpillar Inc., McDonald's Corporation and the Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Serves as Chairman of The Culver Educational Foundation, the Dean's Advisory Board at Kellogg School of Management, and the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago. In addition, he serves on the board of trustees of Northwestern University, Joffrey Ballet, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and The Field Museum in Chicago, of which he is immediate past chair. Former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, The Economic Club of Chicago, and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA).
