Przeworski is a leader in the development of mathematical tools and applied data analysis for studying fundamental processes in evolutionary biology. Her work is characterized by a unique style of rigorous quantitative modeling applied to significant biological problems. She has made primary contributions in three main areas: 1) Pioneering work on the evolution of recombination, including identification of hotspot variation between species and among humans, and identification of the critical gene; 2) Elegant modeling of the processes that control mutation rates in male and female germline; 3) Fundamental work on theory and detection of natural selection in different contexts.
