Siddiqui is well known internationally as a scholar of Islam and as a public intellectual concerned with religion, ethics and public life. In Britain, she plays a prominent and beneficial role in explaining Muslim ideas and practices, as well as Christian-Muslim relations, to the public. In 2011, she became the first person to hold a chair in Islamic and interreligious studies at the University of Edinburgh. Prior to this she worked at Glasgow University, where she founded and directed the Centre for the Study of Islam.
