Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics. Graduate work on two-dimension gels founded the field of proteomics. Pursuing interests in development, established himself as one of the early leaders in the dissection of embryonic patterning in Drosophila. Studies of the control of cell division in development created a new discipline.
