Research has been in cellular, developmental, and molecular biology, especially of early animal embryogenesis. This laboratory was the first to demonstrate the existence, and analyze the provenance and morphogenetic functions of, maternal messenger RNAs in the ovum. More recently, research and writing have been concerned with issues in contemporary science education (K-12 and higher) and of science in culture, with publication of several books and monographic essays.
