                    American singer-songwriter first known for his musical partnership with Art Garfunkel. Wrote most of the duo's songs, including The Sound of Silence, Mrs. Robinson, and Bridge over Troubled Water. After the duo split, began a solo career; albums include Still Crazy After All These Years (1975), Graceland (1986), and The Rhythm of the Saints (1990). Co-founded the Children's Health Fund, which donates mobile medical vans bringing health care to children in need. Has also raised funds for organizations such as the American Foundation for AIDS Research, Nature Conservancy, and Autism Speaks. Recipient, many awards and honors including thirteen Grammy Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award; the Kennedy Center Honors; election to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; and first recipient of the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for popular song. Time called him one of the 100 People Who Shaped the World.
