Peggy J. Berryhill
Peggy Berryhill, a member of the Muscogee Nation, has been a broadcast journalist for more than four decades. In her words: “It’s a path I believe that the Creator chose for me and to say that I am passionate about it is almost an understatement.”
Berryhill founded the Native Media Resource Center in 1997 and is known as “the First Lady of Native Radio.” She has collected hundreds of hours of interviews with Native people, including respected elders, activists, politicians, storytellers, wisdom keepers, artists and musicians from many nations and generations. The goals of her award-winning work include both dispelling stereotypes and amplifying the voices of Native leaders.
She has collaborated with the Smithsonian Institution’s American History Museum, the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian, the Autry, and numerous Indian organizations.
