Gaylord P. and Mary Louise Harnwell Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Science. With David Hungerford, identified the Philadelphia Chromosome, the first demonstration of a consistent chromosomal abnormaliy in cancer and the first genetic link to any malignancy. This observation provided the modern foundation for cancer biology and cancer genetics, significantly advancing understanding of the genetic basis of cancer.
