President of Global Research Alliance, a network of publicly funded research and development institutes from around the world employing more than 60,000 scientists. The objective of the Alliance is to find solutions to the most intractable global problems. Chairperson of India's National Innovation Foundation's governing council. Is the former president of Indian National Academy of Science and the UK Institution of Chemical Engineers. Served as the director general of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. Contributed pioneering work in polymer science and engineering. His many honors, besides 29 honorary doctorates, include Foreign Associate of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences (2005), Foreign Fellow of U.S. National Academy of Engineering (2003), Fellow of Royal Society (1998), Fellow of Royal Academy of Engineering (1996), and Fellow of the World Academy of Art & Science (2000). He was the first scientist to win the JRD Tata Corporate Leadership Award and also the Star of Asia Award by Business Week. In the post-liberalised India, Dr. Mashelkar has been a key architect of India's science, technology and innovation policies. His contributions in transforming publicly funded R&D institutions and developing balanced IP systems are globally recognized.
