Fayez Sarofim Professor of Physics and Astronomy. Leader in the development of laser cooling and the trapping of atoms. Achieved the first Bose-Einstein condensation in a gas with attractive interactions (7Li). Produced a degenerate Bose-Fermi mixture of 7Li and 6Li atoms, and demonstrated matter wave soliton trains of Bose-Einstein condensates.
