Adams taught Neurologie Medicine at Mars General Hospital as Bullard Professor of Neuropathology and Chief of Neurology Service. After training in Psychology at the University of Oregon and general medicine at Duke University Medical School, he spent ten years in neuropathology at the Mallory Institute of Pathology and Deputy Chief Neurological Unit at Boston City Hospital Rockefeller Fellow at MGH for two years. He was then at the Yale Institute of Human Relations for one year, and a travelling fellow in Europe for one year. He was an author of 250 papers on Neurology and Neuropathy and of 10 monographs.
